When is an environmental claim allowed in Finnish marketing?
An environmental claim is allowed when it is truthful, precise and can be substantiated at the time it is used, and the evidence must be produced to the Consumer Ombudsman on request. Marketing must not give a misleading overall impression even if each statement is true, so images, colours and labels are assessed as part of the message. General claims such as climate neutral or environmentally friendly require evidence for the whole message the consumer understands.
