Liability position

The platform is a source lookup, not an adviser. This page states what we promise, what we expressly do not promise and what an error in a row means for you as a customer, in business language and with nothing hidden in a footnote.

What we promise

The commitments are technical and checkable. You can verify each one yourself instead of taking our word for it.

  • Every row carries an official identifier, a canonical address, a read date and a content hash.
  • Every row points to the publisher's own publication. Mirrors are marked as mirrors and never used as the primary source.
  • The same row returns the same answer. The lookup is deterministic and no sentence is written by a language model.
  • A cited row can be checked later against the hash that was cited at the time.
  • Change watch shows when the row was last checked against the publisher and when the next check is due.
  • Changes appear in the version history and in the change feed, not as a silent rewrite.

What we do not promise

These sit outside the service. If a workflow depends on any of the points below, the platform is the wrong tool for that step.

  • No legal advice and no assessment of an individual matter.
  • No compliance decision, no recommendation on how to act and no prediction of outcome.
  • No guarantee that a row is complete, that statutory text is reproduced in full or that every amendment appears the day the publisher issues it.
  • No guarantee that an official address at an authority or court is reachable or unchanged.
  • No substitute for a judgement that a qualified lawyer must make.

What an error means for the customer

Errors fall into four classes according to what they do to your work. The class governs both response time and remedy, and it appears in the deviation response you receive.

  • Source error: the row points to the wrong place, the identifier is off or the address resolves to another row. Effect: a citation becomes wrong. Remedy within one business day, and the row is flagged until corrected.
  • Currency error: the row is correct but older than the publisher's current wording. Effect: a decision may rest on superseded text. Remedy within three business days and the check date is refreshed.
  • Metadata error: dates, supervisory authority or links between rows are wrong. Effect: sorting and roll-ups can mislead. Remedy within five business days.
  • Availability error: an address or the API does not respond. Effect: the workflow stops. We report the outage on the status page and in the outage log.

How to report an error

Send the canonical address and the hash to daniel@valkiv.com. The hash tells us exactly which version you read, which makes the report fast to assess.

  • Acknowledgement with an error class within one business day.
  • The correction ships with the next build and appears in the version history.

Limitation of liability

The service is delivered as is with respect to source content, because that content belongs to the publisher and not to us. Our responsibility covers delivery of the platform, not the outcome of your decision.

  • We are responsible for the lookup being faithful to the source we name and for the proofs holding.
  • We are not liable for indirect loss, lost profit, lost business or third party claims.
  • Where liability arises, the cap is the fees you paid for the service in the twelve months before the event.
  • The limitation does not apply in cases of intent or gross negligence.
  • Liability terms in a signed enterprise agreement prevail over this page where they differ.

Your own responsibility in the workflow

The platform is built for human control at the final step. That assumption is not a formality, it is part of the product.

  • A qualified lawyer must review the material before it supports advice or a decision.
  • Cite with the canonical address and the hash so the recipient can check the row.
  • Check the verification date when the matter is time critical.
  • Use the change feed instead of manual monitoring when the workflow should raise alerts automatically.

Continuity

A firm that builds its workflow on our addresses should not have to rebuild it at short notice. Addresses are therefore permanent, formats versioned and any wind-down preceded by notice.

  • Canonical addresses do not change. If a surface moves, a permanent redirect stays behind.
  • Breaking API changes ship in a new version, with the previous one kept during the transition.
  • Discontinuation is announced with six months of notice and an export path for your citations.
