Model card: legal source engine
The engine is rule-based, not generative. This card describes the input, the decision rules, the version discipline and the stated limits, in the form the EU AI Act asks a provider to publish.
Input and decision rules
Input is a free-text legal question. It is normalised and matched against three closed keys: SFS number, statute name and legal concept, plus the citation formats used for Supreme Court and Supreme Administrative Court rulings. The weights are fixed and printed with the answer.
No match returns no answer. The engine states that nothing in the register matched rather than offering the nearest row.
Version and reproducibility
Every rule change raises the engine version, and the version travels with each answer and each export. A frozen golden test asserts that a set of reference questions returns a byte-identical answer over time.
The source snapshot carries its own read date, so an answer can be tied to the exact register state it was built from.
Limits and intended use
Intended use: locating and citing primary sources. Not intended for legal advice, risk scoring, outcome prediction or any automated decision about a person.
The engine is a reading aid inside a professional workflow with a lawyer in the loop, and it must not be presented to an end client as a legal opinion.

Named sources with read dates
Every row in the engine comes from one of the registers below. The date is the day the register was read into the snapshot the answers are built against.

Version history
The engine version is printed on every answer. The same fact is published machine-readably at /version.json.

- Fetched public pages are held for at most 15 minutes and then deleted.
- The legal basis for operational logs is legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679: keeping the service available and preventing abuse.

Report a deviation
If a row points at the wrong source, a date is off, or a decision has been overruled, write to us. Every report is answered, and a confirmed deviation is corrected in the register and written into the version history.
Reports go to the same address as data subject requests. We confirm receipt within two working days.
