Vid prövningen av om en utlänning gjort sannolikt att hans konversion från en religion till en annan är äkta i den bemärkelsen att den grundar sig på en genuin personlig, religiös övertygelse ska en individuell bedömning göras i enlighet med den handbok och de riktlinjer som Förenta nationernas flyktingkommissarie gett ut. En samlad bedömning ska göras av de omständigheter under vilka konversionen kommit till stånd och av om personen vid en återkomst till hemlandet kan antas komma att leva som konvertit. När det handlar om konversion efter det att utlänningen lämnat sitt ursprungsland - konversion sur place - påkallar trovärdighetsfrågan extra uppmärksamhet.
