Om det inte medför en väsentlig olägenhet för ägaren av en vattenanläggning, kan någon annan ges rätt att ändra anläggningen eller att använda den för en egen vattenverksamhet eller för att förebygga eller minska skador av en egen vattenverksamhet. Skall anläggningen ändras, har ägaren rätt att utföra ändringen och få ersättning för kostnaderna.
Den som ges rätt att använda en anläggning skall ge anläggningens ägare skälig ersättning för rätten att använda anläggningen.
