Med mertid förstås sådan arbetstid som vid deltidsanställning överstiger arbetstagarens ordinarie arbetstid och jourtid enligt anställningsavtalet. Bestämmelserna om beräkning av övertid i 7 § andra stycket ska tillämpas även vid beräkning av mertid.
När det finns särskilt behov av ökad arbetstid, får mertid tas ut med högst 200 timmar per arbetstagare under ett kalenderår (allmän mertid). Mertid får också tas ut med tillämpning av de villkor för nödfallsövertid som anges i 9 §. Lag (2011:740).
