When is an energy performance certificate required?

The owner must ensure that an energy performance certificate exists, and the details must be shown in advertising and given to the buyer or tenant.

For the owner, landlord or seller

The certificate is valid for ten years and must be renewed before a sale if expired.

For the tenant, buyer or client

Where no certificate exists the buyer may have one drawn up at the seller's cost.
