What are the penalties for filing company accounts late in the UK?

A private company pays £150 up to one month late, £375 up to three months, £750 up to six months and £1,500 beyond six months, and the amounts are doubled when accounts are late two years running. Public company penalties run from £750 to £7,500 on the same scale. The penalty is automatic and separate from the criminal liability of every director for the failure to file.
