Enligt lagen (1993:387) om stöd och service till vissa funktionshindrade ingår i stödinsatsen bostad med särskild service för vuxna också omvårdnad samt fritidsverksamhet och kulturella aktiviteter. En person som fick stöd i denna form har ansetts berättigad också till s.k. ledsagarservice enligt lagen, när hon hade behov av sådan service för erforderliga aktiviteter utanför gruppboendets ram.
