Ett aktiebolag skall ha ett aktiekapital. Aktiekapitalet skall vara bestämt i bolagets redovisningsvaluta. Av 4 kap. 6 § bokföringslagen (1999:1078) framgår att redovisningsvalutan får vara antingen svenska kronor eller euro.
