Is a BIS or ISI certificate accepted as CE marking in the EU?

No. BIS is a third-party registration scheme and CE is a self-declaration by the manufacturer against Union legislation. Test reports can often be reused, but the declaration, the technical documentation and the EU responsible person have to be built separately.

What has to be done

  • Establish which directives and regulations apply: one product commonly falls under general product safety, electromagnetic compatibility, radio equipment, low voltage, ecodesign and batteries at the same time.
  • Compile the technical documentation and keep it for ten years; the EU responsible person must be able to produce it on request.
  • Sign the EU declaration of conformity and list each legal act and harmonised standard relied on, item by item.
