What does the EU Batteries Regulation require of Indian battery manufacturers?
A carbon footprint declaration per functional unit, documented recycled content of cobalt, lead, lithium and nickel, a third-party verified raw materials due diligence policy, a producer responsibility representative in each Member State, and from February 2027 a digital battery passport.
What has to be done
- Declare the carbon footprint per functional unit for electric vehicle, industrial and light means of transport batteries, on the Commission's methodology.
- Document the recycled content of cobalt, lead, lithium and nickel, and keep the supporting evidence.
- Operate a raw materials due diligence policy covering the supply chain, and have it verified by a third party.
